Is a full transmission flush worth it compared to a fluid change?
I’ve been wondering about this for a while — is it really worth doing a full transmission flush instead of just a simple fluid change? I’ve got a 2017 Honda Accord with around 90k miles, and I’ve only ever done regular fluid changes every 30k or so. My mechanic keeps pushing for a full flush next time, saying it’ll “extend the life of the transmission,” but I’m not sure if that’s just upselling or genuinely necessary.

I had the exact same dilemma with my Tacoma last year. Ended up reading a bunch and talking to different techs before deciding. A full transmission flush replaces nearly all the old fluid — even what’s sitting inside the torque converter — while a regular change only swaps out part of it. The difference really shows if your transmission fluid is dark or hasn’t been changed for a while. I went ahead with the full flush at around 100k miles and the shifts felt smoother right away.
